Kendrick Lamar stole the show with incredible 2016 Grammy performance — watch

ON FEBRUARY 15, 2016, 10:00PM
Kendrick Lamar earned five Grammy Awards this year, including Best Rap Album for To Pimp A Butterfly, Best Rap Song for “Alright”, and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “These Walls”. The MC — who recently was given the key to the city of Compton — topped off his wins with a truly epic performance of “The Blacker the Berry”, “Alright”, and the debut of an all-new song.
The politically charged performance started off with Kendrick shackled in chains in a prison before being liberated through the power of “The Blacker the Berry”. Later, a bonfire raged and blazed behind him while he breathed flames throughout the rousing “Alright”.
King Kendrick closed his set with a fierce, never-before-heard song (goddamn, got to love the way the camera followed him so intently toward the end). Altogether, it was easily one of the most significant, poetic Grammys appearances in recent years.

Also, watch him accept the Grammy for Best Rap Album.
After being shut out of countless categories at the 2014 Grammys, K-Dot was determined to score as many awards as possible tonight. In an interview with the New York Times in December, he explained:
“I want all of them. Because it’s not only a statement for myself, but it’s a statement for the culture. They’re all important, because of the foundation the forefathers laid before me. Nas didn’t get a chance to be in that position. Pac. So to be acknowledged and to actually win, it’s for all of them.”
